Looks good, smells good!

Last week Taco Bell announced the addition of the Cantina Crispy Chicken Taco to the menu.

Featuring crispy white meat chicken that’s topped with shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese and diced tomatoes, it all gets wrapped in a soft flour taco shell and sauced with either Creamy Chipotle or Avocado Ranch.

I went with the Avocado Ranch and these things are pretty good.  The chicken is indeed crispy, there’s a nice audible crunch when you bite into it.  The chicken tender is nicely breaded, seasoned well and juicy.  The toppings are classic Taco Bell but what brings everything together is that Avocado Ranch, which was nice and creamy.

That’s a lot of tortilla for that little chicken tender

This is a tasty little taco, but the preparation falls short of this being a great taco.  The meat to bread ratio isn’t good using a standard tortilla, the little chicken tender almost gets lost after adding toppings.  A street taco size tortilla would be more appropriate.  And as is typical with fast food preparation much of the time, the taco was under-dressed, there wasn’t enough of the Avocado Ranch and it was plopped in just one spot, not evenly applied.

Costing $2.39 each, I’m giving Taco Bell’s Cantina Crispy Chicken Taco 3 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars.  It’s a good taco, but not great and I don’t think it deserves repeat buy status.  There’s not enough crispy chicken to justify trying the Creamy Chipolte sauced Cantina Taco.

Sloppy Avocado Ranch application, plopped in one spot
