OK Advertising, I’ll “Bite”

I’ve been wanting to try the Dunkin’ Bacon & Cheddar Omelette Bites since they launched the new menu item back in January.

It looks fun, a sous vide egg with cheddar cheese and bacon bits shaped into a mini donut looking thing.  Of course what you get doesn’t exactly match up to the advertising promo, but that’s pretty much a given in fast food.

The bites are served in sets of two and come in two flavor varieties, the other being egg white & veggie.  It’s a nice little punch of protein for breakfast, with the cheddar & bacon ringing in at 17 grams and the egg white &  veggie at 13 grams.

Reality not like the promo pic: Yes, these are the Bacon & Cheddar Bites, but they LOOK more like the Egg White & Veggie

The bites are served in serving tray along with a fork, but are firm enough to just grab and pop in your mouth, which is what I did, Bachelor on the Cheap style…  I don’t need no stink’n fork!  The sous vide preparation is a different texture and it’s done to get that mini donut shape, but if you haven’t had these before don’t go in thinking you’re going to get a scrambled egg or omelette like bite (despite the name), it’s more like a firm tofu and lacks that creamy element.  And like tofu, these bites lack flavor, they’re bland!  Sure, you get the cheddar cheese and minced bacon notes, but they’re not robust and the egg is flat out underseasoned.  I was disappointed in these, they’re not satisfying.

The Dunkin’ Bacon & Cheddar Omelette Bites are available for $3.99, I included hash browns and a Cappuccino with my order for a total of $9.64.  I’m not a fan of these bites and don’t find them worthy of a repeat buy.  They’re bland, the portion of minced bacon is less-than-generous, they’re just not satsifying, no YUM factor to them.  “Eh” is the best way to describer them and I’m giving them 3 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars.  It’s a nice bit of protein to start your day, but not the most delicious way to do so.
