You can’t have a sandwich without chips or some kind of side, you just can’t…

Having a fried bologna sandwich for a quick lunch, I needed a crunch factor to compliment it.

Enter Clancy’s Stackerz Original Potato Crisps

A knock-off of Pringles, Clancy’s Stackerz is an Aldi brand.  In true copycat fashion, Clancy’s not only produces a stackable chip, er, ‘crisp’, but they’ve also copied the red canister and the use of “Original” is absurdly funny.

An impulse budget buy, the Clancy’s cost $1.12 for a 5.2 ounce canister.  In comparison, Pringles will run you about $2.19 for the same size canister at the mainstream grocery store.  The name brand is almost double in price.

Clancy’s vs. Pringles

Stackable ‘crisps’, red canister, 5.2 ounces of ‘Original’ chips…  That’s pretty much where the similarities end.

They stack fine, minimal breakage.

I’ve sampled Clancy’s Stackerz before, their Cheddar Cheese flavor.  Pringle’s and even Lays Stax in cheddar flavors are superior chips.  As a result of that review, my expectations going in weren’t high for the knock-off and the same result comes as no surprise.  Pringles Original is worth paying the extra money for.

Like their cheddar cheese variety, the Clancy’s Stackerz ‘Original’ Crisps stack fine and there’s minimal breakage in the canister.  They provide a decent potato crisp crunch, but they’re on the greasy side.  As you eat these, you start to get an oily buildup aftertaste in your mouth.  To sum, Pringle’s can be addicting, Clancy’s Stackerz are not.

The crisps are on the oily side, which is overkill when eating a grilled fried bologna sandwich.

Despite the budget price of $1.12, Clancy’s Stackerz Original Potato Crisps get 3 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars.  Sure, they’re reasonably priced, but that oily texture is a stackable chip killer. These are not worthy of a repeat buy.  I pretty much knew that going in, but I felt compelled to do the review anyway.  Here’s a case where the Aldi alternative to a name brand isn’t worth it.  I’ll pay the name brand price for Pringles.
