“Fall Back” turn your clocks back one hour

By Mike Thayer

Don’t forget to turn your clocks back this weekend.  We’ll get an extra hour of sleep Saturday night as the Daylight Savings time that started March 13 comes to an end.

Officially, the period ends at 2am Sunday, November 6, so if you’re still up, turn your clocks back to 1am.  Otherwise, turn your clocks back an hour before going to bed (about half of you will) Saturday night, or you can wait until you wake up Sunday morning and turn your clocks back then (the other half of you).

And as you “Fall Back” as the saying goes, it’s also a good time to replace the batteries in smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and any clocks around the house.

And here’s an FYI:  A measure that would make Daylight Savings Time permanent (that means we wouldn’t have to change our clocks twice a year for those of you who live in Valley Center) was unanimously passed in the U.S. Senate back in March.  Called the Sunshine Protection Act, the measure is now in the hands of the U.S. House of Representatives for approval but they haven’t acted on it yet.  If they pass it, it will then go to the President, the measure needing his signature to become law.

What Daylight Savings Time costs the U.S.   Several studies have been conducted on the negative financial impact of Daylight Savings Time, with cost figures ranging from $430 million a year to $1.7 billion.
