Bachelor on the Cheap

I recently did McDonald’s for lunch as part of my Fast Food Challenge, taking advantage of their latest value meal offering, the $1, $2, $3 deal…..

McDonald’s launched it’s new value menu earlier this month and foodies like yours truly are predicting a fast food value meal war as a result.

The world’s #1 burger chain abandoned its popular Dollar Menu six years ago.  It has revamped their value meal strategy, bringing back a list of items not only priced at $1, but at $2 and $3 as well. McDonald’s marketing gurus hope, that with tiered pricing and more items to choose from on the ‘value’ menu, customers might gravitate up to some of the more profitable, higher-priced choices beyond the $1 deals.

While a basic, single-patty cheeseburger is still $1 from the dollar menu days, customers can also select a Bacon McDouble for $2 or a Classic Chicken Sandwich for $3.  Heck, you can even get a Happy Meal for just $3!  C’mon, you want one, I know you do……

For lunch I enjoyed the Bacon McDouble for $2.  After tax the total cost was $2.15 and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this sandwich.  The two burger patties were juicy, the bacon was crisp and I got smoked bacon in each bite.  For just $2 you get a good amount of beef, all complimented with that bacon, cheese, the twang of the pickle and mustard, the sweetness of the ketchup and the hint of onion.  Served on a toasted bun the sandwich was just flat out enjoyable!  This could be a go-to burger for me in the future, that is, if McDonald’s is the restaurant choice.  Micky-D’s I’ll have you know, is NOT in the top 10 of my list of fast food restaurant choices….  Understand that I’m doing this challenge purely for scientific food research reasons……
