Being a Wichita foodie isn’t just about knowing where the best restaurants are in the Wichita metro, it’s also about knowing where to get the best ingredients so you can make great eats at home, to include copycat dishes!
Here’s this week’s side-by-side comparison of grocery store prices for Aldi, Dillon’s and Walmart. Covering the basics, a few new items have been added to the shopping list. I’ve dropped Target from the list, as feedback from readers indicates they don’t shop there, unless it’s like an impromptu item and Target pricing hasn’t been the best value up to this point.
This week’s list, dated December 26, 2022, has 19 items on the essentials list.
Remember that items featured will be the store brand for each respective store, unless otherwise labeled. Prices are good as of the writing and could change by the time you make that grocery run.
Legend: Green highlights show the lowest price for an item. Red highlights the highest price.
Takeaways from this week’s price review:
- Aldi was the cheapest place to grocery shop this week, which hasn’t been the case as of late. Walmart had been the cheapest up to this point in December.
- Prices once again are up at all three stores. Last week’s prices for the same 19 items: Aldi – $58.04; Dillon’s – $58.93; Walmart – $55.98. Walmart gave customers the biggest increase at $3.60.
- Walmart is downsizing some of their products, another form of higher prices by giving you less. Lunchmeat containers went from 9 ounces, to 7. Fish, the frozen Tilapia went from 32 ounces to 24.
- A person could save money buying certain items at one store, other items at another store. I know some folks that do that, but it’s not worth the gas.
