Here’s an item you won’t find on a typical fast food menu.

Who doesn’t love one of those big, soft pretzels to munch on?  A hard to resist snack item typically found in airports, malls and at state fairs, a good soft pretzel has a golden brown exterior with an ever-so-slight crispy edge.  On the inside, the dough is ‘pillowy’ soft, giving you a novel, umami chew.

Did you know you can get soft pretzels at QuikTrip?

They have a variety of flavors: The classic salted pretzel, a Parmesan pretzel, a pretzel dressed in Cinnamon Sugar and still available for a limited time, a pumpkin flavored pretzel, now there’s a pretzel with a twist…  See what I did there, “twist”…?

Stopping at a QuikTrip to grab a fountain drink while out-an-about running errands, I decided to try a classic salted soft pretzel to go with my QT Big-Q.  Using the in-store kiosk to place my order, my pretzel was prepped and ready lickity split.

When it comes to soft pretzels, QT doesn’t disappoint.  Brushed with butter and nicely salted, the pretzel hits all the notes you’re looking for, the golden brown, lightly crispy exterior, the soft, fluffy interior and a very pleasant chew.  I did however find the dough to be a bit on the sweet side, going a smidge beyond balancing out the salt.  The amount of sweet in the QT Kitchens recipe is perfect for their cinnamon sugar dusted pretzel, but a tad much for the classic salted pretzel.  I should have grabbed some mustard.

Available for $2.99, I’m giving the QT Kitchens classic salted soft pretzel 4 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars.  It’s a great snack, reasonably priced and worthy of a repeat buy.  I’m intrigued by the Pumpkin flavored option, I’ll have to try that next time I stop in.
