QT Kitchens sub, chips & a drink
By Mike Thayer
QuikTrip Kitchens is pushing for a larger share of the fast food market, appealing to the stomachs of time-starved customers with a made to order menu that just might surprise you.
It surprised me.
I was recently surprised by how good their pizza was, so with that positive QT Kitchens experience, today I ordered one of their subs.
I went with what they call the 3 Meat Stack Sub, which features Black Forest ham, roast beef, smoked turkey and cheddar cheese topped with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and deli mustard. I ordered it on whole wheat and toasted.
A nicely prepared sub, quality ingredients.
I used the in-store kiosk to place that order and while my sub was being prepared, I casually poured myself a Big Q Diet Mountain Dew and grabbed a single serve bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos.
My sandwich was ready in no time, which was a good thing, I made the sandwich run during the Chiefs vs. 49’ers halftime show.
Back in time for the second half, I opened up the wrapper and took a few pics. The bread had a nice exterior toast, the portion of meats were generous and evenly applied, there was good coverage with the lettuce and tomato, a nice melt on the cheese and the dress of mayo and mustard was spot on. I was optimistic in taking that first bite… QT Kitchens makes a pretty darn good sandwich! I got every ingredient in every bite and you can’t always say that with some of those national chain sub shops out there. The bread had the light crunch on the exterior, but was warm and soft on the inside. The veggies were fresh, I picked up the ham, roast beef and smoked turkey notes, the mayo was nice and creamy and the little twang from the deli mustard brought everything together in a very satisfying bite. I really don’t have anything bad to say about this sandwich other than it would have been even better with a splash or two of vinegar & oil. I ordered the default preparation from the menu in trying one of their subs for the first time, but you do have the option to add other ingredients such as onions, peppers, olives, etc. Additional charges may apply.
I’m giving the QuikTrip Kitchens 3 Meat Stack Sub 4 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars. With a regular price of $6.69, QuikTrip Kitchens subs are very reasonably priced and rivals the subs made by the national chain shops. Add in a bag of chips and a Big Q fountain drink and you’ll spend just under $11 after tax. You’ll spend more than $11 for a combo at any national chain sub shop, but you won’t get a full size sub, never mind the smaller bag of chips and in most cases, a smaller drink. You get more sub AND combo bang for the buck at QT and it’s made to order toasted sub tasty! It’s repeat buy worthy and if time is really an issue for you, you can speed things up using the QT app.
The QT visited on this occasion is located at 1620 S Oliver St, Wichita, KS 67218. The QT Kitchen was staffed by three people during my visit, two members cranking out food and another member maintaining cleanliness. As soon as I hit submit on the kiosk placing the order, one of the ladies in the kitchen thanked me and told me my sub would be ready in a few minutes. Professional and courteous, I was impressed by how this kitchen was run, they’ve earned the repeat business of this time-starved customer.
