Just look at that bacon teasing you…
Make no mistake, this is a man’s man burger. At two-thirds of a pound of beef and stacked so tall to where you really have to open wide to get a good bite, this burger is almost food porn.
Almost…
Here’s the description of the Monster Thickburger from the Hardee’s website: Two 1/3 lb. charbroiled 100% Black Angus beef patties, 4 strips of bacon, 3 slices of American cheese and mayonnaise, now served on a Fresh Baked Bun.
This is a good burger, but it could be great and that’s a true burger shame. It’s got all the base flavors of a bacon cheeseburger, the beef was seasoned well but a bit overcooked. That’s to be expected coming from a fast food restaurant. The portion of bacon was generous, the melted American cheese was in-your-face good and the mayo was creamy. But here’s the thing. The sandwich lacks balance. There are no flavors in the burger to offset all that protein (78 grams) and fat (90 grams).
This burger may sound and look sexy, but….
The burger needs some lettuce, tomato, onion, and/or pickles to give the sandwich some balance. A little tartness (pickle or mustard), or acid (tomato) would really help this burger. Adding some seasoning to the regular mayo and creating a bit of an aioli of sorts would even be a help.
I paid $11.86 for the Monster Thickburger, medium fries and a drink. That’s NOT Bachelor on the Cheap friendly and the burger as is, just isn’t worth a repeat buy. I give it 2 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars. It’s too pricey and fails to deliver great burger flavor. I’d rather have a Frisco Burger.
