I was warming up some leftover meatloaf last night and needed a quick side dish. I didn’t have any potatoes on hand and truth be told, didn’t feel like taking the time to make a real deal mash. I opened up the cupboard to explore my options and Four Cheese mashed potatoes won me over.
Chef’s Cupboard, an Aldi brand, makes regular (plain) instant taters as well as flavored varieties, Buttery, Loaded Baked Potato and the aforementioned Four Cheese. I recently reviewed the Buttery variety and enjoyed them, so I picked up their other flavored potato varieties on my next shopping trip to try. In addition to instant potatoes, Chef’s Cupboard makes a variety of soups, gravies, stuffing mix, bread crumbs and seasoned coating mixes for chicken.
These potatoes have a nice cheesy flavor
I always have a box or package of instant mashed potatoes in my pantry but it’s usually the plain variety. A convenient substitute for the real deal when prepared per the package instructions, the flavored varieties kick things up a notch, no doctoring required.
These are pretty darn tasty instant potatoes! Made with Blue, Cheddar, Romano and Parmesan cheese, those flavor notes really come through. The potatoes are creamy and satisfying, a perfect compliment to a savory slice of meatloaf.
Costing me just $0.85 for a four ounce package at Aldi, I’m giving Chef’s Cupboard Four Cheese Mashed Potatoes 5 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars. Very reasonably priced these potatoes are convenient, serve four and most importantly taste great. Compare the price to name brand Idahoan that will cost you $1.25 for a 4 ounce package at the mainstream grocery store. These potatoes taste just as good.
