Mama Cozzi’s Stuffed Crust Pizza, with pepperoni, Parmesan, and cracked pepper.

Pizza is without question my favorite food. Burgers come in at #2. Each has a dedicated category on BachelorontheCheap.com.
Needing a convenience meal when grocery shopping today, I picked up a Mama Cozzi’s Stuffed Crust Pizza, with pepperoni, Parmesan, and cracked black pepper. My go-to crust is usually thin and crispy, but every once in a while, I go for a stuffed crust pie, there’s just something enticing about getting a good mozzarella cheese pull when biting into that outer crust.
I’ve sampled three Mama Cozzi’s frozen pizzas before today and they’ve been unremarkable (review links below), so I hesitated a bit before throwing the pie in the cart. Hopefully, I thought, that cracked black pepper and doctoring the pizza up with some additional Parmesan cheese would elevate my past “eh” pizza experience.

Just out of the oven, pepperoni and cheese topping pretty much as pictured on the packaging.
Mama Cozzi’s is an Aldi Brand. Offering a full lineup of frozen pizzas, take-and-bake pizzas, calzones, and other pizza-related options, Mama Cozzi’s main appeal is price.
In breaking the pizza out of the box, it pretty much looked like the picture on the packaging in terms of pepperoni and cheese topping portions, so no false advertising/marketing there. It’s an adequate portion of pepperoni, yet not exactly generous. It’s a bargain pizza after all, so you don’t get pepperoni in every bite. The black pepper notes are pleasantly robust and compensate for lackluster pepperoni which is a bit short on spice, but for those who don’t particularly like a lot of black pepper, this may be too pepper-forward for you. The coverage of the cheese was decent and had a nice melt, the crust was good, with a nice crispy exterior and an airy, fluffy interior. It absorbed the oils from the pepperoni and the sauce nicely. The sauce was light in application and “eh” in flavor, needing stronger garlic and herbal notes. The feature of the pie, the stuffed outer crust, was a bit disappointing. While it was stuffed well enough, it lacked that good, stringy Mozzarella cheese pull you’re looking for in a stuffed-crust pizza.

Decent crust, a bit bready, and the outer stuffed crust lacked a good cheese pull.
Costing me $6.99 for a 30.2 ounce (that’s 1 pound, 14.2 ounces for those of you who live in Valley Center) pizza, I’m giving Mama Cozzi’s Stuffed Crust Pizza with Pepperoni, Parmesan, and Cracked Pepper Pizza 3 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap Stars. This was the last time buying a Mama Cozzi’s product for me. It may be convenient and it’s a bargain price, but it just didn’t deliver on flavor. The only doctoring I did with this pizza was grate a bit of fresh Parmesan cheese on it before serving. More doctoring, such as more pepperoni, perhaps some onion and mushroom is recommended. The cracked black pepper was good, but otherwise, this was another very “eh” dining experience, just like the other Mama Cozzi’s products I’ve tried. It may be bargain-priced, but it’s a sacrifice in taste and ingredient quality.
