Who doesn’t like a bacon cheeseburger, right?!

I was on vacation recently, in need of some lunch while on the road to my vacation destination and decided to stop at a Wendy’s conveniently situated along my route.

Getting pummeled with all those TV ads – the Wendy’s ad is actually pretty good, they put cheddar cheese on the bun and McDonald’s has what?  Seeds?….  – too funny….

So with that marketing influence in mind I ordered Wendy’s new ‘Big’ Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger, featuring the cheddar cheese melted into the bun….

Here’s the description from the Wendy’s website:

Big Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger

Not as pretty as the pics, but tasty

It’s  more than just a bacon cheeseburger. It’s stacked with American cheese, creamy cheddar cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, sweet and savory bacon jam, crispy onions and a cheddar bun.

Is it more than  just a typical fast food bacon cheeseburger?  Yes, the bacon jam, crispy onions and creamy cheddar elevates this burger into the pub-style burger arena.  The ‘Big’ description isn’t about the size of the burger though, it’s a typical fast food bacon cheeseburger, what the ‘Big’ is about is some kicked up flavor.  But if there’s a downer, it’s in the bun – the hype to the burger – it doesn’t live up to the marketing.  Yes, it does add to the overall flavor profile of the burger, but like most fast food, what you get pales in comparison to the marketing pics and the bun in reality suffers from typical fast food preparation – SLOPPY.  But the flavor is there.

I paid $10.74 for the Wendy’s Big Bacon Cheeseburger Combo, that’s on the high end of fast food prices for a combo meal and not the most Bachelor on the Cheap wallet friendly deal but this burger did deliver on flavor and is worthy of a repeat buy.  I’m giving the burger 4 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars.

$pend Wisely My Friends…..

Under the lid, with the crispy onions, bacon jam and creamy cheese kicking up the flavor profile
