Without question, pizza is my favorite food. Burgers, steaks, lasagna, anything grilled and an assortment of other dishes are high on the list of favorites, but there’s nothing quite like a good slice of pizza pie… That slice of pie has a perfectly baked crust that’s flaky/crispy on the outside, but tender and fluffy on the inside. Then there’s the marriage of toppings coupled with a savory sauce and bringing everything together is a generous portion of cheese with a nice melt that bubbles up in the oven to golden, brown, deliciousness!
With my Dad and Stepmom in Wichita for a two-day visit, we visited my favorite sports bar in town for dinner on Thursday night. Deano’s Grill & Tapworks, located at 9747 E 21st St N Suite 101, Wichita, KS 67206, is a thumbs-up place all the way around. The service is top-notch, the drinks are smooth, the food is fantastic and the atmosphere is super friendly. It’s a great place to just hang out and catch a game and/or catch up with family and friends.
The pizza was presented menu picture perfect
We arrived at Deano’s at about 5:30 pm and the place was already hopping but we were seated right away. Thursday night is popular at Deano’s, with Happy Hour drinks all day, we’re talking half-price martinis, well drinks, and perfect margaritas. Settling in at our table and with TVs in view no matter what chair is chosen to sit in, our server took our drink order as we perused the menu.
I already knew what I was having going in, the Cluck and Oink pizza. It’s a 12-inch pie that can be easily shared with or sampled by others at your table. I’ve enjoyed Deano’s pizza in the past – the Doggie Breath pizza featuring pepperoni, red onion, and garlic chips is outstanding – but on this night I wanted to try another pizza option. And did Deano’s come up with some great names for their pizzas or what? Here’s the description for the Cluck and Oink from the restaurant website: Oink sauce (pizza sauce, ranch, and pecorino Romano), mozzarella, grilled chicken breast, and bacon. Garnished with a ranch swirl and parsley.
Look at that crust! Deano’s crust is an excellent foundation, delivering a perfect, savory, crispy edge, fluffy interior bite.
What sounds like a great pizza, looks and tastes even better! Delivered to the table pedestal style, the presentation was menu picture perfect and the aroma prompted some mouthwatering. In taking that first bite, the pizza was perfectly baked, the crust had that really nice lightly crisp exterior and fluffy interior, the Oink sauce was on point, and the grilled chicken was seasoned perfectly and tender. The cheese had a nice pull and the smoky bacon, well, bacon makes everything better! The pizza is flat-out a perfect marriage of flavors. Both my Dad and Stepmom nodded their heads in approval as they sampled. Deano’s Grill & Tapworks crafts stellar pizza, rivaling any pizza joint in town.
In addition to my pizza order, my Dad enjoyed a half rack of slow-smoked ribs with coleslaw and an optional side of mashed potatoes. My Stepmom took delight in the Sweet Orange Blossom Salmon served with rice and mixed vegetables. All the meals were outstanding which I expected from Deano’s, after all, it’s why I’m a repeat customer, and why I take friends and family there.
With the three entrees totaling just over $50 (not including a few Happy Hour-priced adult beverages), Deano’s once again delivered a great dining experience. They’re reasonably priced, the food is fantastic, the drinks are smooth, and the service is attentive, friendly, and done with a smile. If you haven’t visited Deano’s Grill & Taproom, you should. It just might become your favorite sports bar in town. It’s Bachelor on the Cheap 5-star worthy.
