Good nacho cheese flavor
BachelorontheCheap.com
My favorite chips of all time without question, are Nacho Cheese Doritos. For me, the crunch and the flavor are unparalleled, the ultimate chip snack.
But in going KETO with my daily diet, I need an alternative for those occasional guilty pleasure cheat times. Nacho Cheese Doritos blow up a diet regimen and the more I read labels the wiser I’ve become as to how unhealthy Nacho Cheese Doritos really are.
Enter Hilo Nacho Cheese Tortilla Style Chips
My girlfriend Jennifer hooked me up with a variety of chip snacks from Hilo, including a nacho cheese-flavored tortilla-style chip. She’s so thoughtful, capital ‘W’ Wonderful!
Made with almond flour, these chips pack 9 grams of protein per 1-ounce serving, which is unheard of in a traditional chip snack (typically 2 or fewer grams). They have just 5 grams in carbs, only 3 net carbs if you factor in the fiber content, compare that to the typical 16-22 grams in carbs per serving in a traditional chip. Hilo has indeed made a KETO friendly chip, but how does it taste?

KETO Friendly Chips
They have a good initial crunch that satisfies a crunchy snack craving and the nacho cheese flavoring is on point, but the finish in the chew brings out the mealiness that is almond flour. Don’t get me wrong, this is a solid, good-tasting chip snack and a healthier alternative to Nacho Cheese Doritos, but, they’re not as tasty as Doritos. Jennifer and I agree, they deliver a satisfying taste with the nacho cheese flavor but they lack the crunchy depth of a regular tortilla chip.
Jennifer bought a box of Hilo chips, containing 12, 1-ounce bags and four flavors – Nacho Cheese; Spicy Salsa; Ranch; Ultimate Taco, for about $23 on Amazon. That’s a reasonable price for a healthier, alternative chip, yet high enough, to encourage less chip snacking. Compare that price to Quest brand Nacho Cheese flavored tortilla style chips, also a KETO friendly chip and a 12-count package costing about $25, review pending. Jennifer and I will be sampling more alternative chips before assigning a rating and deeming Hilo repeat buy-worthy.
