Restaurant Brands International Inc. said Monday that it has agreed to acquire Firehouse Subs, a sub sandwich chain founded in Jacksonville, Fla., for $1 billion in cash, funded through cash-on-hand and debt. Restaurant Brands’ existing chains include Burger King, Tim Hortons and Popeyes. Firehouse Subs was launched in 1994 by two brothers, Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, who are former firefighters. Firehouse Subs has 1,200 locations across 46 states, Puerto Rico and Canada.
