I’m traveling around the Wichita Metro, sampling the burger offerings from any joint that has burgers on the menu, local, regional, national chain, it doesn’t matter. In order to determine a true champion of burgers in the metro, I’ll have to sample them all in the name of “burger science” (cough). For the burger criteria, click here.
I went to Harry’s Uptown Bar & Grill for lunch today to check out their version of a bacon cheeseburger. Harry’s is a great neighborhood bar with a very casual feel, a good place to unwind after work. I’ve had a few drinks there from time to time and shared an appetizer or two, but I’ve never ordered from the main menu.
Great visual appeal
The burgers at Harry’s ROCK! Shame on me for not having a one at Harry’s before today!
The burger is huge, the Angus beef patty weighing in at a 1/2 pound. It was perfectly cooked, getting a nice flat top crust on each side creating depth of beef flavor and it was juicy. I got crispy bacon and American cheese in every bite, balanced out with fresh lettuce, juicy tomato and tart pickle. And packaging everything up nicely was that lightly toasted bun, which held up from first bite to last. Sometimes when you get a burger this large, the bun can fall apart after soaking up juices from the burger and moisture from the veggies, especially if it’s not toasted.
The under the lid reveal
Side Note: The onion rings were top notch! Fried to perfection and seasoned well, I got a beautiful crunch from the golden, brown and delicious exterior followed by the sweetness of the onion on the inside. YUM!
The entire basket was as I like to say, Another Dose of YUM! Costing me just $12.87 for the burger and rings basket, Harry’s Uptown Bar & Grill and their ‘Bacon & Cheese’ Burger scored 58 points out of a possible 63, the highest score so far in this challenge and that score earns a 5 star Bachelor on the Cheap rating. And did you see that price? We’re talking a 1/2 pound burger! Not only is it a fantastic burger, what Harry’s cranks out in fine fashion is Bachelor on the Cheap wallet friendly too.
It’s a handful & a mouthful!
Located at 3023 E Douglas in Wichita, the Harry’s Uptown burgers are STELLAR, the beer is cold and the service was great. Arriving at around 11:30am, I found a seat at the bar and was quickly served. There was a steady lunch crowd filing in. As I enjoyed a beer and texted back and forth with a friend, my burger order was set in front of me lickity split, hot, fresh, DELICIOUS. Thank you kitchen, thank you Nita, great service! Hmmm… Routine Monday lunches at Harry’s might be in order…
