I’m traveling around the Wichita Metro, sampling the burger offerings from any joint that has burgers on the menu, local, regional, national chain, it doesn’t matter. In order to determine a true champion of burgers in the metro, I’ll have to sample them all in the name of “burger science” (cough). For the burger criteria, click here.
Today’s lunch challenge took me to Bill’s Charcoal Grill. The restaurant proudly states the following on their website:
That’s not trash talk, it’s the real deal!
I arrived at Bill’s at 11am, right at opening time as I always do in going to a burger joint for lunch in this challenge. Since my diet now consists of burgers usually twice daily for the time being, I skip breakfast and do lunch at 11am, then hit whatever restaurant is next on the list at around 5pm for dinner. Burgers are filling, especially doubles!
Well executed char, the beef was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked.
I ordered the double cheeseburger, adding bacon. I got french fries for a side and a drink. Having placed my order I found a seat and checked my email while I waited. A steady stream of customers started coming in, some to dine in, quite a few getting carry out to include one gentleman toting extra large brown bags containing multiple meals, I’m assuming a called in order for a work crowd. My order was ready, I couldn’t wait to dive in, the aromas in the restaurant from those carry out orders were enticing, mouthwatering so.
Stacked nicely, good toast on the bun
I like how Bill’s serves up their burgers, with packaged toppings and condiments. It allows you to assemble your burger as you see fit.
What a great first bite! I immediately got the smoky char notes from the perfectly seasoned beef, followed by the compliment of the bacon and the melted cheese. The veggies were fresh, provided great added flavor and coverage, the bun had a nice toast. I could go into all the nuances and flavor descriptions of each ingredient but instead I’ll just say the execution in preparing this burger from bottom bun to the lid was excellent! I couldn’t put it down it was that good, the burger never left my hand. “It Was Another Dose of YUM!”
“It’s Another Dose of YUM” in every bite!
Side Note: The fries were excellent as well, perhaps the best regular french fries I’ve had so far in this challenge. Fresh from the fryer they were perfectly seasoned, having a great exterior texture delivering a nice crispness and the interior was fluffy spudtastic. These fries were so good, ketchup was not required.
Costing me $15.85 for the burger, fries and a drink, the Bill’s Charcoal Grill Double Cheeseburger with bacon scored 60 out of a possible 63 points earning it 5 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars. This is a repeat buy, again, and again, and again…
Located at 2957 N Arkansas, Wichita, KS 67204, the service at Bill’s Charcoal Grill was courteous and the food was fantastic! I don’t care where you live in the Wichita Metro, Bill’s is worth the drive.
