Whenever craving a roast beef sandwich, Arby’s is a go-to place for me – it is their specialty after all – and so when I saw their limited time offer of two Bacon Beef ‘n Cheddar sandwiches for $6, I HAD to jump on it!
I ordered the sandwiches to go, along with a side of potato cakes, which I always get. You can’t go to Arby’s and NOT get a side of potato cakes!
“So, how are the Bacon Beef ‘n Cheddar sandwiches?” You ask….
They’re good, as Arby’s Beef ‘n Cheddar sandwiches always are… The classic flavors of the thinly sliced roast beef piled high, combined with that cheddar cheese, elevated up a notch with the pepper bacon served up on that delicious poppy seed/onion bun. It’s another dose of YUM! The only knock I have against the sandwich is Arby’s is not particularly generous with that bacon.
Pictured above is the promotional picture of the sandwich from the Arby’s website. Pictured left, is what I was served at the restaurant (click to enlarge). No, you never get that promo picture perfect sandwich at the restaurant, but not bad right? But here’s that bacon problem… What looked good on the edges, wasn’t quite so ample looking when you flipped the bun. The bacon appears to be full strips laid across that luscious roast beef in the ad promo pic, it’s not done like that in the restaurants, well, not at the one I sampled anyway. It’s a typical, sloppy, fast food preparation of a sandwich, resulting in not getting bacon in every bite. Got plenty ‘a bacon mouthful on half the sandwich, not so much on the other….. Another note, Arby’s claims this is thick cut pepper bacon. It’s got the pepper, but it’s not thick cut.
Overall, this is indeed a good fast food sandwich, as in good but not great. The bacon, the reason for the promo hype, is a bit of a disappointment.
My order cost a bit over $8 which is Bachelor on the Cheap friendly. I had one sandwich and the potato cakes for lunch, leaving me the second sandwich to enjoy for dinner. Will I buy Arby’s Bacon Beef ‘n Cheddar again? While on the special, perhaps, but not from the regular menu if it makes the list. I’d rather sample the next special Arby’s chooses to offer up.
