Can you eat nothing but fast food value meals for a week on just $50?
That’s a budget of just $7.14 a day.
Are there enough restaurants out there offering value meals that will fit in the budget? Will there be enough variety? Will I stay full enough, no snacking required?
I say I can stay under budget and eat well to boot.
It’s Day 3, lunch time!
I’m starving, I only had a cinnamon/raisin biscuit from Hardees for breakfast. As I mentioned in that write-up, this challenge is already getting tougher, looking for value meals that sound good, without busting that $7.14 a day budget, or defaulting to the same restaurants and then there’s the for the second-day-in-a-row between breakfast and lunch, experiencing “I need a snack” trouble.
I went with a garden salad from Wendy’s for lunch.
It’s nothing spectacular, small and I could probably have built a bigger salad on my own for less but it is tasty and has served to quell the hunger pangs for now. The mixed greens are fresh (no brown edges like you sometimes see at fast food joints or buffets), there’s some shredded cheese, tomato, a bit of onion… Served with ranch dressing and croutons, I’m feeling full, for now…. But will I be hungry again in a few hours? Will dinner time come early? Stay tuned….
This meal cost me $2.03, leaving me $3.84 for dinner.
Meal total for the day:
Breakfast: $1.27
Lunch: $2.03
Cumulative total for the Challenge:
Day 1: $7.29
Day 2: $6.44
Day 3: $3.30 (Breakfast & Lunch)
I went over budget by 15 cents on Day 1, but was under budget by 55 cents on Day 2 and with today’s purchasing savvy I am well under budget so far for the day and the challenge.
Grand Total: $17.03 on Day 3 with dinner to go.
The nice thing about this challenge – No dish washing required! Bonus!
And then there’s bonus #2: A growing surplus of napkins!
Bonus #3: The opportunity to rack up on condiment packets….. You knew that was coming, right? What bachelor does NOT have condiment packets in his fridge?
