Myanmar - Bulletin n.2-9th July
Highlights:
- The staging area in DMK was formally opened on May 24th to receive and forward
humanitarian cargo from Bangkok to Yangon. This 20,000 sqm facility, a gift-in-kind
from the Thai government, has been a valuable asset to the relief mission. To date,
1,993.5 mt of cargo has been brought into Yangon via the airbridge. However, the
warehouse and aircraft are now at capacity and no further CMR can be accepted
for air transport. Sea transport is being arranged for the overflow. - With the continued rains, rivers are rising and flood planes are becoming hard to
access even by small boats, especially in the south-western parts of the affected
area. An increasing number of locations may become inaccessible to all but
helicopter transport. The Logistics Cluster remains available to discuss plans for air
transport with all organizations needing to distribute relief goods to these regions. - The FOC (Free of Charge) permit under which humanitarian cargo has been brought
into Myanmar is unique to the Logistics Cluster and will not continue after its end
date of August 10th. To assist organizations in registering for their own POC status, aLogistics Cluster expert is collating forms and information which will be compiled into a guidance bulletin for the humanitarian community.
